Hypoallergenic formula was necessary for our daughter's acid reflux.

We found out from a friend that most insurance companies will completely cover the cost of hypoallergenic formula, either by reimbursing you what you've spent on it, or if you get it as a prescription through your pediatrician. Ours did!

Many doctors don't know this, so they don't know to give a prescription for the formula. Call your insurance company today!

 "other helpful suggestions" 2008-04-11
By aquamarchgirl
So, before I begin my review of this product, here's our background... our son who is currently 6 weeks has had to be sent to the hospital with gas pains so severe that the emergency room doctors were concerned that he might be trying to pass a kidney stone. Turns out he was allergic to soy, we had tried breast, standard formula and lactose intolerance formula. He had a negative reaction to all (including breast believe it or not, I went through tests also to determine what was in my milk even though I was on a mild diet.... cause was deemed later on to be for a substance need, our baby needed rice formula). So..... we tried just the rice formula with the children's mylicon with the VentAire bottles.... somewhat of an improvement, but our child was still needing to go to the doctor weekly for checkups without much success, our pediatrician would even call us daily to see how he was doing. Constipation was questioned, but was never an issue. Our breakthrough occurred when we took our son to a specialist appointment and the lady asking us if our son had excess gas since she noticed that Mylicon was listed as one of his meds. I stated quickly yes and told her of our ordeal. I was told that she was the grandmother of 5 children and a mother of 3 and had tried EVERYTHING to cure their extreme colic. The remedy they found, Hyland's colic tablets, Dr. Brown's bottles, and rice formula. After the doctor appointment I went to the store to give these products a try....... and it was like an angel had spoken to us. Our child could breathe again and was longer tense in the body, as he was making progress against constantly trying to push. I know that I'm being candid but I am hoping that this will help other parents and children that have been or will be in our situation. We are on day 4 of the product switch and WOW, he's a brand new baby! If these products can help a child who's been hospitalized, hopefully these can help yours as well. Pedialyte also works as well to help calm the tummy. I've been using tylenol every 5 hours (excluding when he sleeps) for the first week and have been continuing to use the Mylicon to help with the surface gas. Burping has never been an issue, but his burps and toots have become louder and more productive, sometimes just shifting him in our arms can help him to expel gas! I'll be making this post in numerous areas in hopes to help people.

Hyland's colic tablets, Dr. Brown bottles, Enfamil AR Lipil, infant's tylenol, gas drops is literally our formula to success.

"Didn't work for my son" 2007-09-25
By Omaha girl (Omaha, NE)
I have a two month old who has been on a bunch of different formula's, so this was the ped's final suggestion. I've read so many wonderful reviews on how it "saved" people's babies. Not mine. He is usually gassy, but on nutramigen, he started spitting up chunks and projectile vomiting - he was actually much worse, he cried everytime we patted his back to burp him, or even sat him upright. He was okay on it from day 3-6, but after that he was bad.

By G. M. Stewart-Tooson (bristow, va United States)
I have tried to work every angle to purchase this formula for less than $7.89 per can. I was traveling to the SuperTarget weekly and buying in bulk until I came across this offer. With the supersaver shipping this is a pretty good deal as I can use tap water and save an extra trip to the store (especially with gas prices as high as they are right now)

"Very expensive, but worth every dime if you need it" 2006-05-12
By R. Harris (Buffalo, NY United States)
If your baby has protein digestion problems this is a Godsend. When switching from breast to formula at six months my son started throwing up, not spitting up but throwing up and the broke out in a rash. They switch him to every kind of formula until the discovered he had allergies including milk and soy. Once he was finally moved to this and we removed any other allergin causing items from his diet he began to gain weight and thrive again. He is back to his normal playful self and even though the price is a killer its worth every dime if your child needs it to be healthy. Be sure to check with Mead/Johnson. Families who must use Nutramigen receive one free case. I found this out through their sales rep at my pediatrician and we did receive a free case. It was a nice gesture on their part considering you'll spend about $100 a month on this formula.

"The best formula for any baby!" 2009-12-01
By Carmilea R. Bean (Bermuda)
I have used this product since my son was about 3 months old my son is now 13 months.

Before using it I tried all other brands and types of formula only to find my son had rash, vomiting uncontrollably (it smelled like cheese) to find that he was allergic to dairy (most babies are, but parent dont know) (you may think its collic). Trust me if you try Nutremagin you will be pleased from the first time ( its non dairy and it doesnt contain soya). My son had no more problems with rash or consistent vomiting.

I am grateful someone recommended this to me, as I am able to recommend it to others!

I hope this helps

Mia, Bermuda

Special Babies that have under-developed Digestive systems, (Babies born with Intestines outside of the body), have long recovery times to even get to where they can be fed ANYTHING at All. This Formula is expensive and hard to find locally, 35-40 dollars a Can. This place offers it for $135.00 for 6 cans which is a considerable savings, AND they get it to you fast.

Saves $$ and makes you feel good that you have a reliable source,

 "Pregestimil Hypoallergenic Formula" 2007-01-06
By S. Hamasaka (Lynden, WA)
This was an awesome convenient way to purchase our infant's special formula. (He's had proper weight gain and a more pleasant disposition after switching to this.)

The only problem is that since Amazon is no longer carrying it or it's temporarily out of stock, we weren't able to rely on them for this. We have since switched to the autoship program directly from the manufacturer and it's the same price. I thought I was saving money buying it at Amazon but we weren't because of tax/shipping. However, if I buy books I do check to see if the formula is in stock because it is so hard to find and it's nice to have extra cans on hand in case I miscalculated the autoship dates.... If Amazon had it consistently, I'd buy a case of it and some books every month in one shipment. Too bad for them. We'll just get our books locally until I need something specific again.

"Smells awful but it works" 2009-11-11
By G. Johns
This product smells awful and tastes even worse. I have to mix it with the regular soy formula for my 9 month old baby to consume it. The baby has not had any wheezing since she has been on it (started at 4 months old) even when she got the flu and a bad bout of coughing. I need to find a similar product that is for kids 1 year and older.

 "worth every penny!" 2009-08-09
By kristadm (Lakewood, CA United States)
I cannot say enough good things about Nutramigen! My first child would cry for about any hour every evening and we just accepted it as normal for a baby. For my next two babies, I fed them Nutramigen right from birth and they were the world's happiest babies. Never had fussy times, never had gas, only woke once per night right from the beginning and were sleeping through the night by 6-8 weeks. (OK, I'm also a schedule feeder, and scheduling definitely helps with sleeping through the night, but I'm convinced a happy tummy with no gas helps, too!) I know this is usually only used if there is already a problem with allergies or digestion but I think infants' digestive systems take time to develop and have a hard time digesting regular formula. This formula just helps them along a little by breaking it down. Totally worth the money. I transitioned them to regular formula at around 7 months or so.

"Good for babies, disgusting taste and smell" 2006-08-01
By E. M. Ceballos (Nuevo Leon, Mexico)
My daughter has reflux combined with cow's milk allergy, she had a little scalp seborreah and her cheeks seemed to be irritated all the time. We live in Mexico and drs recommended Alimentum but it was totally out of reach because it is not distributed here and we would have to go to the border frequently to get it making it even more expensive. I called the doctor and told her I wasn't able to give my baby that milk and she recommended Nutramigen. The first I noticed was the disgusting taste and smell, the baby didn't accepted the change immediately but hunger is hunger, so eventually she took it and improvement was drammatic.

"Very Expensive To Make My Baby Happy!" 2006-06-27
By T. Reuvers
This formula has totally changed my baby. I was exclusevely breastfeeding my daughter but she was so crabby. So I tried Enfamil Pro-Soybee because that helped my son when he acted like her. The dr. then told me to try this and within two weeks she was a much happier baby. Every couple months I try mixing this formula with another to see how she reacts. Well she always gets sick and vomits. So I guess we are stuck on this for a while. My only complaint is how expensive it is. We are spending $75.00 a week on formula which is hard money to find for a stay-at-home mom but it is totally worth it not to have a baby that screams all the time.
