"Tastes disgusting-- don't believe me? Try them yourself!" 2009-10-01
By J. Turner (BFT, SC United States)
I have yet to find a way to get my breastfed son to take these vitamin drops. They taste and smell absolutely rancid. I tried them myself after he repeatedly spit them out and once threw up the contents of his stomach after taking these (he does not do this otherwise at all). They were gross. Really, really gross. You couldn't expect an adult to take these, much less a child. I also theorize that the high iron content may upset his stomach. I cannot take a multivitamin unless I have a large meal, as the iron makes me feel nauseous. I would love to find some vitamin drops that taste better. My pediatrician told me that babies like these-- that they are sweet? Another reviewer mentioned that they may have changed the formula...? Well, the bottle I purchased mid-September 2009 tastes TERRIBLE. Yuck! If you can find another alternative, I'd love to know. I would NOT recommend these. Good luck getting baby to swallow/keep these down.

 "doctor recommended" 2009-01-11
By Lori Mickle (usa)
My babys doctor recomende I get these because babys need more vitamin D. I couldnt find them in any store so I bought a 3 pack. Honestly I forget to give them most of the time. They do have a funny smell and my son does make that "sour face" and shake his head when I give him them. I have been squirting a dropper full into his baby oatmeal. This seems fine.

 "does the job" 2008-12-29
By Charles Gibbs (Memphis, TN USA)
This has been a go-to product for our 3 children. All 3 were breastfed, the last was actually anemic because he would spit the stuff out so we got pretty lax about giving it. But as he became more accustomed to solids, he actually swallows it without a fuss. And yes, his anemia has gotten better with more iron-fortified cereal & this product. Also, it has the vitamin D recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. On a practical note, when this solution gets on clothing, the stain comes right out; Poly Vi Sol has B vitamins which stain black . . .permanently.

 "Easy and Effective" 2008-08-24

Drops are very easy to use and my son actually likes taking them now! It's a great way to help keep him healthy in those winter months; especially since he is exposed to so many germs in day care.

"New batches have bad taste" 2008-02-21
By R. Taylor (Houston, TX)
I have been giving them to my daughter for 10 months now (she is 14 months), but the horrible taste of the most recent batches is causing her to reject the supplement completely. She has always LOVED the taste of the vitamin drops, and always got really excited when she saw me pulling out the bottle. Unfortunately the last bottle that I bought has an awful taste - I even tried it, and the smell afterwards is just as bad. It smells and tastes very metallic, like old rust. Enfamil sent me a complimentary bottle - it was the exact same thing, but from a different batch! The lot #'s on the bottles are 110005A and 110006A. Here is what they wrote to me in an email:

"Many of the ingredients, such as the vitamins and the iron used in our vitamin and mineral products, have an astringent or bitter taste that can be difficult to mask. We try to make our vitamin and mineral supplement drops as palatable as possible without excessive or unnecessary use of sweeteners or artificial flavors. Many quality control steps are taken during and after production of each batch of our products. We carefully inspect raw materials, make in-process checks and thoroughly examine each finished batch to ensure that it meets our high standards for physical appearance and nutrient content. We would not release a batch if it did not meet specifications. It is possible to observe some batch-to-batch variation in our products. Differences in raw ingredients may affect the taste, odor, or consistency. Each batch is tested before it is released, and we would not expect these differences to affect a baby's acceptance or tolerance of the formula."

The last statement is completely untrue.

Now I have to search for an alternative.
